MISSION VIEJO, Calif., March 05, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Ensign Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENSG), the parent company of the Ensign™ group of skilled nursing, rehabilitative care services, home health care, hospice care and assisted living companies, announced today that it acquired the operations of Downey Care Center, a skilled nursing facility with 99 skilled nursing beds located in Downey, California. The acquisition was effective March 1, 2019.
“We are very excited to add this operation to one of our most mature clusters in Ensign,” said Christopher Christensen, Ensign's President and Chief Executive Officer. He added, “It’s been many years since we have found the right opportunity to grow in Southern California. We are excited to see our local team of some of our most experienced operators and clinical leaders—many of whom have been successfully supporting transitions in other markets—transform an operation in their own backyard where they have nearly two-decades of credibility with the local healthcare community.”
“We are pleased to welcome such a devoted and experienced team to our operations and to combine their efforts with our world-class team of clinical and operational resources and Service Center partners,” said Adam Willits, President of Flagstone Healthcare South, Inc., Ensign’s California-based portfolio subsidiary. “Together, we look forward to elevating the standard of care for the residents, their families and the local healthcare community,” he added.
This acquisition brings Ensign's growing portfolio to 190 skilled nursing operations, 24 of which also include assisted living operations, 56 assisted and independent living operations, 24 hospice agencies, 25 home health agencies and seven home care businesses across sixteen states. Ensign owns the real estate at 73 of its 246 healthcare operations.
Mr. Christensen reaffirmed that Ensign is actively seeking opportunities to acquire real estate and to lease both well-performing and struggling skilled nursing, assisted living and other healthcare related businesses throughout the United States.
The Ensign Group, Inc.'s independent operating subsidiaries provide a broad spectrum of skilled nursing and assisted living services, physical, occupational and speech therapies, home health and hospice services and other rehabilitative and healthcare services at 246 healthcare facilities, 23 hospice agencies, 25 home health agencies and seven home care businesses in California, Arizona, Texas, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Nevada, Iowa, Nebraska, Oregon, Wisconsin, Kansas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.
